The Dog and the Bone
One sunny afternoon, a hungry dog stumbled upon a big, juicy bone — the kind of bone every dog dreams of! His tail wagged with joy, and without wasting a second, he clamped his jaws around it and trotted off, eager to enjoy his treasure in peace.
He wandered until he reached a quiet riverbank. As he crossed a narrow bridge, something caught his eye. He looked down into the calm water and — to his surprise — saw another dog staring back at him, also holding a bone!
But oh, what a greedy thought crossed his mind. “That bone looks even bigger than mine!” he growled softly. “I must have it too!”
Without thinking twice, the foolish dog barked loudly, trying to scare off the “other” dog and snatch the second bone. But the moment he opened his mouth… plop! — his own precious bone slipped out and fell into the river with a splash.
He leaned over, but it was too late. The water swallowed it. The reflection vanished. And now, he had nothing.
The once-happy dog walked home, head hung low, realizing how his greed had cost him everything.
Moral of the story: Sometimes, in wanting more, we lose what we already have. Be content, be grateful — and don’t let greed cloud your good fortune.
